Day 05 - Zadar, Croatia (Day off)

After the longest day of the year (in more ways than one), our day off was just what the doctor ordered. Zadar is a fascinating port city with a 9th century cathedral, beautiful old town, bustling fruit market, and a cool Sea Organ, steps on the ocean that play music as the waves rush into and out of its holes.

Riders went on foot into the town, quite a long walk from the hotel. Not wanting to have to do the same walk back, several of us hired a speed boat to show us the island, take us out for a dip in the water, and bring us closer to our lodging. Tim, Irene, Andy, John and An'So enjoyed the high speeds (and breeze) from the boat, and took turns diving into the clear water. Others shopped and did some sight seeing in the Old Town. Meanwhile, Connie continued her support role, going many steps beyond the call of duty by washing all our foul-smelling laundry. And Nathan and Roger shopped and cooked for the entire group, providing a delicious and hearty sauce that went equally well with rice and pasta.

The evening was topped off with a round of champagne in honor of Connie and Roger, and a watermelon dessert. It was a wonderful way to celebrate our last night in Croatia, and the dawn of our upcoming tour of Northern Italy.

Quotes of the Day:
"Wow, this water is almost as blue as Dave's hair!"
-Tim
