WE DID IT!

Today was our last day of riding, starting in Big Falls and ending in International Falls. Though it was only 38 miles, it felt like a long way because we couldn’t wait to be finished!

Riding into International Falls as one big group was a wonderful feeling. The total mileage for the trip came to 479 miles! Over 20 riders unicycled the entire distance. Once in International Falls, the riders gathered for a short ceremony recognizing our achievements. Plaques for the event will be given out when they are finished. J

Then, even though we had officially finished the ride, we hopped back on our unis to ride half a mile into Canada. Customs let us unicycle across the border and spend some time in the country.

QUOTES OF THE DAY:

"This is the longest five miles I’ve ever done." – Irene Genelin on the home stretch

"After this trip, I’m not going to get on this unicycle for at least a month." – Brian Hansen

"It’s going to be nice to never sit on this seat again." – Preston Ulmer

"Get ready – in ten minutes we’re starting back to Elmore, unicycling." – Frank Bonsch jokes after reaching International Falls

"Don’t talk behind my CamelBak." – Sven Wittorf’s saying for the week

"You should write a book, Mike." – Jake Donahue to Mike Owens whenever he gets on one of his tall tales

"You have to take Andy’s mileage estimates with a cup of salt." – Peter Nyflot

"It was the hardest thing I've ever done, but it sure was fun." - Preston Ulmer

TID BITS:

~Our tires are now unevenly worn to match the bevel of the roads!

~Peter Nyflot spent a whopping total of $6 on the trip.

~While we rode, we had detailed discussions about the "perfect uni" – a Coker with an aerobar, a comfortable seat, a brake, and a generator to run the coffee maker and color TV.

~The international riders count their bug bites!

~Aaron’s collection of road-side trash is growing daily.

FUNNY MOMENTS:

~Waking up when a wet, cold tent collapses on you (courtesy of the Divines)

~Lining up rotten apples across the road during breaks and watching them get creamed into applesauce as cars go by

~For the last 15 miles of the ride, the Divines sang their own modified version of "She’ll Be Coming Around the Mountain." For example:

Only 13 more miles left to go,
Only 13 more miles left to go,
And if we all get lucky
We will wind up in Kentucky,
Only 13 more miles left to go.
YEE HAW!

The trip has been a great experience for all of us. We enjoyed participating and we will never forget it.
