We have been riding for a week!

Another short day! A mere 42 miles was the total. We started near Grand Rapids, traveled through Deer River and Marcell, and ended at Clubhouse Lake Campground near Big Fork. The route was again very scenic, and toward the end we had to deal with some serious hills. The car drivers got annoyed with us because the roads were so twisty and unicyclists were not staying in the shoulder. Oops! Andy's co-workers supplied a supper of ribs and barbeques for us. Thanks! We went swimming/bathing in the lake and set up tents. A few riders went to the Gilbertsons' cabin to work on the web page. :) Thanks to the Gilbertsons! QUOTES OF THE DAY: "I've figured out hills - you just have to think of them as flat pieces of land that are tilted a little." - Peter Nyflot "Knees are definitely funnny things. They change without warning." - Neil Younggren MOMENTS TO REMEMBER: ~Gilby locking himself in the bathroom ~A two-mile water gun fight through winding roads ~Losing our kitten :( ~Multiple uni pile-ups (one goes down, the rest fall like dominoes because we ride so close together) ~Eric Rouse falling off his Coker, sending it rolling across the busy road and into the woods ~Our biker photographer Aaron Svec cruising into a wet ditch, flipping over the handle bars and getting all muddy. (Don't you love bikes?) ~Roasting marshmallows in the fire and making s'mores. REMEDIES FOR INJURIES: If your knees hurt, raise your seat. If your achilles tendon hurts, lower your seat. And what if both hurt? Umm.... 16 pills of aspirin? Changing the way you pedal can also help - pedaling with your toes pointing in or out, or pedaling with your heels, arches or toes, etc., helps because the pedaling motion isn't the same repetitive pattern. For saddle soreness, we use BUTT'r, "udder butter" (bag balm), Aspercreme, or sit on sponges! Seven days down, two to go! International Falls is getting closer all the time! |
