Second day on the road!

Today the unicyclists rode from Nicollet to Hutchinson ("Hutch"), Minn., a total of about 54 miles. Feeling "bruised and battered," as Roger puts it, we pedaled through Brownton and reached Hutchinson by 4 p.m., where an outdoor swimming pool awaited us! Swimming was a nice way to relax and stretch tired muscles.

Supper, provided by St. Anastasia Church, was pizza, subs and brownies. The riders would like to thank Godfather's Pizza, Subway, Dominoes Pizza, Pizza Hut, More 4 Grocery Store, Burger King, Olson Milk and Ca$hwi$e (Grocery Store) for the supper and tomorrow's food. We also wish to thank the Hutchinson One-Wheelers for organizing the dinner and home-stays.

After the meal, we gave yet another performance for the audience in Hutchinson, featuring ultimate wheeling, spinning, stand-up pull-gliding, juggling, jump roping, and the 12-foot giraffe.

We spent the night at various homes in the community: A big thank you to the Cotters, Frahms, Toperzers and Marvans for so generously offering up their homes!

QUOTES OF THE DAY!

"The three best doctors are faith, time and patience." - Sharon Reece (support staff)

"I've never been so sore before in my life!" - Andy Cotter

"This is the worst best idea I've ever had." - Andy Cotter, quoting Peter Philippe who organized UNICON VIII

"I'm to the point of taking breaks every mile now. And it's going to get worse." - Ryan Wood

"I can't even walk!" - Colin Schworer

"Holy cow!"- photographer Aaron Svec, commenting on the 7,000-plus cow collectibles in the house of a reporter from Bernadotte

HIGHLIGHTS AND FUNNY INCIDENTS:

~During training rides and the actual ride, the unicyclists came up with several rules of thumb. Here they are!

1. Never trust Andy (This is all in good fun, folks.)

2. Not all dogs are nice.

3. Charge your cell phones and know how to use them.

4.  Don't walk backward in mud. (You can ask Peter about that one.)

5. Don't leave anywhere unless Colin, Jake, Cameron and Mike are in front of you.

6. Connie hates trails.

7. Don't eat bugs.

8. Do not unicycle past someone who is using the corn fields.

9. Butter up!

10. Don't take breaks by road-kill.

~Roger's habit of sleeping under semis behind the wheels (to be in the shade) earned him a concerned "Is there anything I can help you with?" from another truck driver who pulled up beside him.

~Group lunch breaks that take up half of the highway!

Tomorrow's journey will end in St. Cloud. We are looking forward to watching Guy Hansen attempt to break his own world record for pedaling a unicycle with his hands. Currently the record is .3 miles.
