It all comes to an end! The last day of riding came to about 88 km, most of which seemed to go fairly fast. The first 10 km were hills - but after that the riding was not too challenging, although it was the muggiest day we've had. We all ate lunch together at the town before Barcelona, and then we rode the last 10 km to our final destination as one group. City riding in a large group is always tough, but we have gotten a bit better at it. Like Monarch butterflies alighting on a branch, we glide up to stoplights and posts and balance until the traffic clears. In Barcelona, we rode along streets and bike paths lined with palm trees until our decided ending point: the Columbus statue. There, we posed for group pictures and gave Dana hugs until her shirt was covered in unicyclist sweat. Then we rode to our hotel and got cleaned up for our celebratory dinner. Post-dinner plans included sleeping, hitting the bars, or raiding the ice cream stands! Barcelona is a beautiful city, with wide walkways, trees and lots of street performers.
Congratulations to all the riders for making it. Riding in with the whole group together was a great experience. A special congrats goes to Scot, Aaron, John, Elijah, and Christian for covering the entire distance - about 1800 km, although everyone had individualized distances.
