The Riders

Chris Cline on Unicycle Across Minnesota. Picture by Aaron Svec.

Chris Cline, 16, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, USA. Chris participated in Unicycle Across Minnesota. Besides unicycling he participates in track, cross country, and is on the swim team. He is interested in riding across Europe because it will be a once in a life time experience.

Scot Cooper Mountian Unicycling.

Scot Cooper, 40, Long Beach, California, USA. Scot is an avid mountain unicyclist (MUni) and is probably best known for showing up at the 1998 California Muni Weekend with the first of it's kind giraffe-mountain-unicycle. In the fall of 2000, on a borrowed Coker, he entered in the Mt. Diablo Challenge, a 10.8 mile hill climb with an elevation gain of 3249 feet. To the surprise of many a bicyclist, he finished before most of them. Scot can't think of a better way to see Europe than by riding across it.

Andy Cotter on Unicycle Across Minnesota after a long day. Picture by Aaron Svec.

Andy Cotter, 32, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. Andy is one of the co-organizers of the European Unicycle Tour. He was the main organizer of Unicycle Across Minnesota in 1999 (the long way), 479-miles with 35 riders, eight support people, and four support vehicles. He holds four world artistic unicycling titles and seventeen national titles. Since Unicycle Across Minnesota was too short, he wanted to double the fun by going twice the distance, twice the time, twice as many countries, with half as many people.

Christian Hoverath. Picture by Sven Wittorf.

Christian Hoverath, 18, Bottrop, Germany. Christian is a co-organizer of the European Unicycle Tour. Last year in Beijing, China, he received the unicycling title of Standard Skill World Champion. He likes long distance unicycling and thinks it’s funny to have people wonder if he is crazy to organize as well as ride on the tour.

Tammy Marsh.

Tammy Marsh, 21, Brookings, South Dakota, USA. Tammy is studying journalism, Spanish, French and German at South Dakota State University. She rode in Unicycle Across Minnesota and found that unicycling is one of the best ways to meet people.

Tanya Marsh

Tanya Marsh, 18, Brookings, South Dakota, USA. Tanya is planning on studying journalism at South Dakota State University. Since Unicycle Across Minnesota was so much fun, she wants to do it again, but twice the distance and time.

Elijah Parker

Elijah Parker, 18, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. Elijah came into the picture late, joining the Twin Cities Unicycling Club this spring. After receiving for graduation from home/high school the presents of a Coker ("A what?!?") from his parents, and airfare to Europe from his aunt (she lives there), he was set to go. His other interests, which are put on the back burner for now, are computer/electronics (he's currently designing a computerized weather station) and wildlife photography (he's yet to figure out how to carry his 300mm f/4 lens on his back). He hopes to add many new birds to his list and photos.

Javier Ruiz

Javier Ruiz, 27, San Juan, Puerto Rico. Javier is a world champion unicyclist who likes all aspects of unicycling. He thought it would be great to see the Europe, on a unicycle. Check out Javier’s web site.

John Stone

John Stone, 30, New York, New York, USA. John commutes on his Coker through New York city putting on an average of 20 miles a day. He thought that this ride would be great training as his future goal is to ride his unicycle 4,000 miles across the United States (the long way). A professional composer and writer of fiction and non-fiction, John speaks Japanese as well as French (which should come in handy for about 700 miles of this trip).

Aaron Svec on Unicycle Across Minnesota

Aaron Svec, 22, Brookings, South Dakota, USA. In 1999, Aaron was the official photographer for Unicycle Across Minnesota. While he did that ride on two wheels, he is ditching the training wheel and is unicycling with the rest of the riders. Besides unicycling, and photography, Aaron has an appreciation for red meat. He has resolved not to eat any animal brains or spinal chords while in Europe. He would encourage all the other riders to do the same.

Support Crew

Constance Cotter, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. Constance has experience with unicycling long distances as she participated in the Unicycle Across Minnesota in 1999. She is seasoned unicyclist with multiple national and world champion titles. While she likes long distance unicycling, she decided this time she would focus on being part of the support team.

Dana Schneider at NUC 2000. Picture by Andy Cotter.

Dana Schneider, 21, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. Dana has multiple world champion titles in unicycling. She is part of the support crew to help the other riders and enjoy the scenery.
